Life on Base

BONDS THAT ARE FORMED FIGHTING TOGETHER ARE ENJOYED ON BASE TOGETHER.

Being a Marine is a full-time commitment, as those who earn our title are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting of a Marine at all times. But Marines are also able to enjoy the way of life they fight to defend. Much of life on base is spent outside of formation, where the Marines you train and fight alongside are just as ready to help share in some quality time.

A FAMILY LIKE NO OTHER

There is no tighter bond than that which exists between Marines. For those who train, serve, and fight alongside one another, that bond is only strengthened outside of duty as well.

LIFE ON MARINE CORPS BASES. ON BASE. IN A COMMUNITY.

Marine Corps bases have the feel of a small town with everything you need to live comfortably. Shopping destinations, recreational centers, museums, restaurants, religious facilities, schools, gyms, and more are conveniently located throughout most bases. And on-base housing builds a secure, tight-knit community among military families.

Medical

Marine Corps healthcare coverage keeps all Marines in good health and fighting fit. While serving in the Marine Corps, every Marine and his or her immediate family will receive a number of health benefits, including free comprehensive medical insurance and competitively priced dental insurance. Marines may also purchase life insurance at a minimal cost. Most Marine bases have medical facilities available to active-duty Marines and their immediate families, but if there are none available on base, Marines are referred to a civilian facility.

If you remain in the Marine Corps through retirement, your medical benefits will extend throughout your lifetime and that of your spouse at reduced rates. You may also be entitled to receive prescription medicine benefits, as well as care in a Veteran Administration (VA) hospital.
